Social workers and other health care professionals are called upon to serve an ever-increasing volume of patients presenting with some form of dementia, whether due to impairments such as Alzheimer's Disease, or due to brain injury. This course examines myriad aspects of dementia and identifies assessment tools to help the professional distinguish between dementia, delirium and depression. This course is designed for Social Workers, RNs and other professionals who work with the elderly in the long-term care setting.
1. Explain the disease concept of brain injury and different forms of dementia
2. Identify the possible underlying factors in memory impairment diseases
3. Identify the differences between dementia, delirium and depression
This course is approved by the Association of Social Work Boards - ASWB NJ CE Course Approval Program Provider #13. Course # 1093 from 11/08/2016 to 11/08/2018. Social workers will receive the following type and number of credit(s): General social work 3.0. Method of delivery: Face to Face. Level of Practice: Beginning to Intermediate.

Your presenter, Susan Harris, CRA, ADC, LNHA, BA, MC, is a highly-accomplished health care executive with over 23 years’ experience at the helm of several senior living facilities. She has spoken at the White House on eldercare issues, and has a keen understanding of the ethical issues surrounding end-of-life care decisions and advance care planning. Ms. Harris has extensive training and expertise in Alzheimer's, dementia and other memory disorders as well as the issues that often surround these illnesses.
